Business Policy

Latest update: June 1, 2022

1. Subscription Policy

All mentors can create and design their own monthly subscription package (30 days) by setting the number of 50-minute calls per month, the allowance of in-platform chat, the provision of tasks and assignments, the time availability for mentoring sessions, and the rate of the subscription fee.

All mentors are allowed to enable only or both free and premium (paid) monthly subscription for their mentorship, depending on their preferences. However, some features will be provided only for users with premium subscriptions.

Once a mentee decides to subscribe to mentorship from particular mentors, the mentee needs to submit a request for mentorship subscription along with the mentee's expectations toward the mentorship. After that, it depends on the mentors to accept or decline the requests.

  • If a mentor accepts a mentee's request, the monthly subscription is confirmed and the payment will be automatically charged by Athena to the credit card information provided by mentees.

  • If a mentor declines a mentee's request, an email confirmation will be sent to a mentee about a declined request along with the reasons from mentors, and Athena will not charge a mentee any costs.

After the confirmation of mentorship, mentees will need to book the first session with mentors in order to activate the subscription. The 30-day subscription will be activated and counted as Day 1 of subscription on the day that the first mentoring session begins.

Both mentors and mentees should discuss the plan for the mentorship and schedule the following mentoring sessions based on the subscription package. The success of mentorship depends on both mentor's and mentee's commitment to the goals and expectations.

A subscription is to be associated with a single person and cannot be shared with others. Sharing Athena services with someone else will result in a suspension of services and no subscription fee will be refunded.

The subscription will automatically renew unless a mentee cancels the subscription plan at least 24 hours before the end of the current subscription period. Each subscription will specify the start date and the end date in order to inform the mentee about subscription renewal. Please note that the number of sessions in the current subscription will not be transferred to the next subscription.

The pricing of our services may change, at any time without prior notice and at our discretion. We shall not be liable to you or to any third-party for any modification, price change, suspension or discontinuance of our services.

If you do not attend a paid call and the mentor was present, this session will count as completed.

2. Payment Method

Athena currently accepts the payment only via credit cards.

A mentee undertakes to pay the mentoring fees charged to mentees once the monthly subscription requests for mentorship is accepted by the mentor. Athena or our authorized third-party payment processor will collect the fees payable via mentee's credit card.

In order to process mentee's payment, you will be asked to provide billing information, including name, billing address, and your credit card details. The payment will be processed by a secured payment provider.

Please note that where transactions are undertaken by a third-party processor the terms and conditions and privacy policy which apply to the processor's services will be applicable to mentees' transactions. Please review the third parties' terms and conditions and privacy policy before using the services. You must also check if your credit card provider charges fees related to the payment of these services. We disclaim liability for credit card processing transactions charged to you by your provider.

All mentees agree to provide current, complete and accurate billing information, including cardholder's name, credit card number, registered bank, and expiration date, so that we can complete the transactions and contact the mentees as needed.

3. Payout Policy for Mentors

Mentors will receive the payment from monthly subscription per one mentee in two installments;

  • First installment will be paid to mentors' Athena account balance in the fixed amount of USD50 after the first mentoring session with a mentee.

  • Second installment, the rest of the subscription fee, will be paid to mentors' Athena account balance after the completion of monthly subscription with the deduction of 20% commission fees by Athena.

Mentors are allowed to withdraw the earned mentoring fees once the mentors' in-platform account balance has the minimum amount of USD100. The payment process to mentors will take 15 business days to complete.

4. Cancellation Policy

Within 7 days after the first mentoring session with subscribed mentors, a mentee is allowed to cancel the monthly subscription with the mentors and receives the full refunds. However, a mentee is required to submit the cancellation request with the reasons for discontinuing the subscription via our cancellation form to the Athena team.

By submitting the cancellation request, the mentees agree that the related data generated within Athena, including but not limited to records, calls, messages and/or personal information will be used by Athena's authorizers in order to investigate the requested issue. By doing so, it allows our authorizer to make a reasonable judgement for cancellation refund and give a fair chance for both mentor and mentee to explain the issue with Athena via email, phone or video interview. The request review will take 7 business days to confirm mentees for the full refund.

If the subscription plan has started for more than 7 days, the cancellation process is not allowed. The mentee can choose to complete the subscription or discontinue the subscription without the refund.

5. Refunds

The refund will proceed only if the subscription cancellation for any particular issue is approved by Athena's authorizer. Athena will refund in full payment that the mentees had been charged from subscription back to the mentee's credit cards within 30 business days. On the other hand, a mentee will not receive the refunds if the investigation reveals that the first session has met Athena's standards.

What are the standards that mentee could issue a refund:

5.1. Mentor could not deliver mentee's expectations as mentor is allowed to accept or decline subscription requests from mentees before the mentorship acceptance.

5.2. Mentor shares confidential information with others without permissions from mentees.

5.3. Mentor shows unacceptable behaviors towards mentees as following:

  • Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person.

  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.

  • Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material.

  • Posting or threatening to post other people's personally identifying information

  • Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability.

  • Inappropriate photography or recording.

  • Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes, sexualized comments or jokes; inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcomed sexual advances.

  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in person).

  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.

  • Sustained disruption of community events, including talks and presentations.

In the severe cases of unacceptable behaviors by either mentors or mentees, Athena will suspend the account or ask persons with those unacceptable behaviors to leave Athena permanently, depending on the judgement of Athena team.
